I decided I wanted to make my youngest son a quilt for his 5th birthday, because the only quilt I made him before this was a little bit juvenile (I made it when he was still an infant, after all). So I started planning and plotting, and I found this awesome quilt pattern on Craftsy! From there I decided to just expand out from the center panel, and surround Mario with all the things my son loves most.

So, that’s what I did! I pieced together the Ninja Turtle blocks at the bottom using strips of green and other colors, then embellished with felt eyes at the end. I pieced the Creeper block at the top using squares in various mottled shades of green, and again added a felt face (which I just sort of cut free-hand based on an Internet image of a Creeper). Then I added a few of his favorite old T-shirts, some superheroes, sharks, puppies, and more! And voila – a quilt that’s basically one giant geek-out, in fabric form.

And as you can see, he definitely loves it!

So, what have you been making this week? Share it on social media and tag it #MakersWednesday and I’ll come check it out!
