Welcome to #ThinkCreateReflect, your semi-weekly dose of brain food!
This week, I’ve been thinking a lot about goals. I can’t share too much here, but basically I’ve been operating under the umbrella of a Big Goal for my life/business. But after a while, I started to let that goal give me tunnel vision – in my mind, there was only THE ONE WAY to accomplish that goal, and I was tossing out potential opportunities to reach it in other ways.
And then an opportunity hit me right in the face, one I didn’t want to ignore. I had a moment where I forced myself to stop and think through these ideas/questions:
- How badly do I want this opportunity?
- Is this opportunity REALLY taking me away from my Big Goal, or is it potentially leading me down a different path towards achieving that goal?
- What would happen if I opened myself up to this?
And you know what? I’m so glad I did! I can’t say for sure that the opportunity that came a-knockin’ will actually get me to my Big Goal faster than I would have gotten there on my own, but only time will tell on that one! For now, at least, I’m happy to have taken the opportunity and I’m excited to see where it will lead. Who knows? Maybe I’ll even wind up swapping out my Big Goal for a better one!
So here’s my thought prompt for YOU this week –
How have you become short-sighted or tunnel-visioned when it comes to your big goals? What opportunities are you ignoring that might actually turn out well? How can you re-think your big goals to allow for more flexibility in achieving them? What new ideas does THAT spark?
