I beg you to have patience with everything unresolved in your heart and to try to love the questions themselves as if they were locked rooms or books written in a very foreign language. Don’t try to search for the answers, which could not be given to you now, because you would not be able to live them. And the point is to live everything. Live the questions now. And then perhaps one day, far in the future, you will gradually, without ever knowing it, live your way into the answer.
This is the quote that I recite to myself when things are tough. It’s my mantra if you will. I first saw it on a greeting card at a small pharmacy I went to during my first week in college. Later, I discovered it is from Rainer Maria Rilke’s Letters to a Young Poet — a book I am now known to carry around with me like a security blanket.
Recently, I was laying in bed whispering this to myself and thinking that I’d like it up on my bedroom wall where I could see it each night before going to bed and each morning when waking up. Inspired by my work with the fabulous ladies of The Maven Circle in their Catalyst Course and the lovely printables from Oh My! Handmade Goodness, I decided to try my hand at creating some prints. And I did it! I needed to distill the message down a bit, so I picked the 3 things that I think I need to remember most.
You may be wondering why I didn’t include Live your way into the answer. It’s a powerful, positive, inspiring idea … but it’s still focusing on the end. And to me, the whole point on of this passage is that we should focus on the messy, intense, unsure middle. To me, the most important part is to Live Everything. In fact, I think it’s so important that I have it tattooed on my wrist!
OR order 3 archival quality prints! There are 4 color schemes available: this one inspired by the Patterned logo, one inspired by my bedroom, one inspired by my office, and the other inspired by my wedding. Can you guess which is which?
(Ok. I really really just wanted to try out Shop Locket.)
So tell me, what’s your mantra?
